Zonies Law appointed class counsel to represent thousands of patients involved in systemic sterilization breach at Porter Adventist Hospital.
On Thursday, July 23, 2020, Denver Judge Morris Hoffman partially granted Plaintiffs’ motion to certify the class action against Porter Adventist Hospital. The case involves a years-long sterilization breach at Porter. Surgeons reported finding dried blood, bone chunks, hair, and dead bugs in surgical tool kits in the operating room. These alarming reports alerted the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (“CDPHE”) to the years long sterilization breach at Porter. Ultimately, Porter had to close its operating rooms until due to the sterilization breaches. Porter sent a letter to thousands of patients who had surgery at Porter during the sterilization breach. The letter warned patients that they may have been exposed to an increased risk of contracting blood borne diseases, such as HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C. Attorneys from Zonies Law assisted in filing the class action complaint on December 28, 2018.
